| And then there's Kruger. With his razor fine brush he articulates a world of characters that bare much more than they themselves might choose to reveal. Imperfect smiles and revealing gazes that can throw the viewer off balance, dark humor that comes from places most of us have yet to explore, an instinctive ability to find the bumps and creases of life that can be found beneath the makeup and just to the side of the spotlight. Kruger is the one artist who could perfectly capture the many deep layers of what makes Jack Nicholson the enigmatic institution of a person we have never been able to stop watching. |
